In the early 20th century, American makers reimagined floor candlestands for the age of electricity forging slender iron posts into balanced silhouettes that reflected an ethos of utility, durability, and a quiet reverence for material.

Our version carries that lineage forward. Hand-forged by Wick’s Forge in Salem, New York, a third-generation family blacksmith, each lamp is shaped through hundreds of strikes and finished with a blend of linseed oil, beeswax, and olive oil that draws out subtle variations in tone and texture across its wrought planes. The cord falls freely from the harp, recalling early electrification before concealment was common, while an adjustable joint beneath the socket allows the shade to be leveled or shifted as needed.

Simple yet assured, this lamp feels like a drawing in space, a piece that belongs as much to the past as to the present

The lamp is sold without a shade, giving you the freedom to choose your own. For a ready option, we offer traditional paper shades made in Bedford Park, IL.

Made by Wicks Forge in Salem, New York

Each floor lamp is forged, welded, and finished by hand at Wick’s Forge in Salem, New York, using solid steel sourced from mills across North America.

versatility meets elegance

"Quiet and stark at the same time, the lamp feels as at home in a loft as it does in an 18th century timber frame." — Alexander Jacobson
  • adjustable joint

The lamp includes a forged joint beneath the socket that lets you level or angle the shade. It provides simple, practical adjustment while maintaining the lamp’s balanced proportions.

  • hand-hammered individuality

Though the height and proportions of each lamp are consistent, the hand-forged hammer marks create subtle variations across the legs, shaft, and joint that make every piece one of a kind.

Things to Know

At Roseland, we make our lamps with solid steel, forged by hand and finished without varnish or synthetic sealers. They will age, burnish, and tell their story over time. Here are a few things that may differ from what you’re used to:

Hand-Forged Steel Shows Its Maker

Every lamp is shaped with heat and hammer, which means subtle tooling marks remain. These are not flaws, but the signature of the forge and effort that goes into crafting each lamp. It's evidence that no two legs or stems are quite alike.

Natural Patina Develops with Use

Over time, the lamp’s surface will darken in the recesses and lighten on the high points. This gradual patina is intentional, akin to an old handrail or well-used tool, growing richer over time.

Black Oxide & Linseed Oil Form a Living Finish

The lamp’s surface is created through a black oxide bath and finished with a mix of raw linseed oil, beeswax, and olive oil which are breathable treatments rather than sealed coatings. They won’t chip or peel, but will gradually burnish where touched, revealing lighter steel beneath. Over time, a natural patina will emerge, and an occasional light rub of linseed oil can restore depth and luster if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the lamp UL certified?

The lamp is not UL-certified as a whole device, but it is made using UL-certified electrical components (wiring, socket, etc.), so it meets safety standards through its parts.

What is the recommended bulb and maximum wattage?

The lamp uses a standard E26 base bulb (a typical household bulb). We recommend a warm 2700K color temperature.

If I don’t purchase the shade, what should I look for?

We recommend an empire-shaped shade in paper or linen, however it all comes down to personal preference.

Does the lamp require assembly?

Very little. The base of the lamp arrives fully assembled. The only step required is attaching the lampshade to the harp. No tools are needed.

Is the lamp height adjustable?

No, the lamp is a fixed height. However, it does include an adjustable joint beneath the socket that allows you to slightly level or angle/tilt the shade as needed.

How heavy / stable is the lamp?

It weighs about 25 lb and is quite stable thanks to its 16″ diameter base. Tip-over risk is minimal under normal use.

How do I take care of the metal finish?

If the lamp receives a surface mark or light damage, it can be easily maintained:

  • First, wipe the area with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or residue. For slightly deeper marks, fine metal wool may be used gently to smooth the surface.
  • Once clean, reapply a zero-VOC oil or wax finish in thin coats, and wipe away any excess.

What is the return policy or warranty?

We offer a 30 day return policy as well as our standard heirloom warranty for the Stissing Floor Lamp.
