Hand-forged in Maine, by Matt Foster and the Black Dog Ironworks team, our Martini table was designed for our tavern, Stissing House, in Pine Plains, NY. Inspired by an 18th century table at the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur museum, It functions as its namesake, an elegant side table, or even as a nightstand. Forged in 1800 degree heat, then worked with hammer and anvil, each table is born unique with over five hundred strikes to make the final shape. Finished in linseed oil, you’ll notice the beautiful variations on its surfaces and facets. With an eleven and a half inch diameter, and a twenty six inch height, the table is sturdy, versatile, and should last forever.

Made by Black Dog Ironworks in Enfield, Maine

Since 2014, Matthew Foster and team have been making furniture and tools in the woods of central Maine.

Hand-Hammered Individuality

Though the height and diameter of each table are nearly identical, unique hammer marks create subtle variations in each piece.

Black Oxide Bath, then Raw Linseed Oil Rub

Each table undergoes a black oxide bath, resulting in a beautiful, inert, and corrosion-resistant finish. It is then treated with the same pure, raw linseed oil used on our nightstands and beds, initiating the patina formation process.

Cocktail Table, Nightstand, or Side Table

Standing twenty-six inches tall with a diameter just under a foot, the table fits naturally next to armchairs, sofas, and beds. Despite its slender form, the substantial weight and twelve-inch leg span provide stability for heavier items like vases or lamps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it wrought iron or wrought steel?

While the term wrought iron is now used to describe any kind of hand-metal work, this table and almost all hand-forging in the USA replaces iron with the superior attributes of steel.

Can it rust?

While the black oxide finish and linseed oil provide some protection, the table can still rust if overly exposed to moisture, humidity or the elements. As with most natural metal finishes, regular examination and oiling will reduce oxidization.

You photographed it as a nightstand, is that a good use for it?

While there is no drawer or storage, the table makes for an elegant nightstand for those who prefer a mixed-element and decluttered bedside.

Can I see one at the Stissing House?

Yes! Order a Pine Plains Martini in the Wood Shed.

Do I need a leather topper?

No - the face of the table is beautiful and durable, but if you'd like a soft-landing for your glass or to add additional texture to your room, the leather topper offers that.

Why is it so heavy?

The table weighs 11 pounds, which is heavier than most tables of similar size on the market. This is because the stem and legs are made from solid steel rather than hollow, pre-fab pipes.

Is the leather topper removable?

Yes - it just sits inside the 11.5" table top with gravity and no adhesive.
