Our taper candles are hand-dipped from 100% American beeswax by Bell Springs Candleworks, a third-generation candle maker in Mendocino County, California. Made with a cotton wick and no added fragrance, color, or paraffin, the candles burn with a warm, steady flame.

Bell Springs sources its wax from Iowa, using exclusively light capping wax — the fresh wax bees use to seal ripe honey. It has a naturally golden color and subtle honeyed scent. Because the wax is left in its natural state, slight variations in color, texture, and scent are part of the material.

Available in 10- and 12-inch lengths, the tapers burn for approximately 2–3 hours.

Made by Bell Springs Candleworks in Mendocito County, California

Lindsay Hansen is a third-generation candle maker and, with her husband Frank, runs Bell Springs in Northern California. Lindsay’s grandmother began making candles for their off-grid community, where electricity was scarce and unreliable. Today, they continue that tradition in small batches using 100% American beeswax sourced from Iowa.

Why Beeswax

Beeswax is a biologically produced structural wax secreted by honey bees and composed largely of long-chain esters, free fatty acids, and hydrocarbons. In candle applications, its density and thermal properties support a comparatively slow rate of burn and a stable flame. Because the wax is used in pure form, the candle retains the faint natural aroma of beeswax itself rather than relying on synthetic fragrance.

“Beeswax is a remarkable material to work with. It has a natural warmth and subtle scent, and each batch is slightly different in color and character. We’re grateful for the work of the honey bees and for the opportunity to make candles from such a simple, natural material.” — Lindsay Hansen
  • LIGHT CAPPINGS BEESWAX

This candle is made from light cappings beeswax: the fresh wax bees use to seal ripe honey. Newer and cleaner than older comb wax, it gives the candle a purer color, natural aroma, and cleaner burn.

  • SCENT OF THE HIVE

Pure beeswax carries a faint natural sweetness drawn from the wax itself. No added fragrance—just the subtle scent of the hive as the candle warms.

  • Hand-Dipped

Made by hand in small batches from 100% American beeswax.

  • 2–3 Hour Burn

A slow, steady burn designed to last through dinner and into the evening.

  • Free Shipping

Carefully packed and shipped free via UPS Ground. On candles, we accept unused returns only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose beeswax over paraffin?

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees. Unlike paraffin, which is petroleum-derived, pure beeswax burns slowly, carries a faint naturally sweet aroma, and contains no synthetic waxes or additives.

Why does the candle vary in color?

Beeswax is a natural material, so slight variations in color are expected. Differences in nectar sources, season, and the wax itself make each candle unique.

How should I burn a beeswax candle?

Burn the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts. Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before each use to encourage a steady flame and reduce excess soot.

Why does my candle develop a white coating?

A light white film, known as “bloom,” is a natural characteristic of pure beeswax. It does not affect performance and can be left as is or gently buffed away with a soft cloth.

Where does the beeswax come from?

Bell Springs sources its wax from Iowa, using exclusively light capping wax — the fresh wax bees use to seal ripe honey.

 Is the candle scented?

No. The candle contains no added fragrance. Any aroma comes naturally from the beeswax itself and is subtle, with faint honeyed notes.
