Our candle stand is inspired by an early 19th-century (c. 1800–1830) Shaker example in the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The original was made in New Lebanon, New York, and reflects the community’s commitment to utility, balance, and disciplined proportion. The small drawer beneath the top was often used to store sewing tools, embodying the Shaker belief that even modest objects should serve daily work.
Roseland’s version marks our first collaboration with Jeff Puls, a historically minded craftsman in Ellisville, Missouri. Jeff builds each table in his one-man shop, using a combination of traditional hand processes and machinery, from cherry sourced in Pennsylvania.
The candle stand features traditional joinery, including a wedged-tenon stem connection, a rabbeted drawer, and a carefully matched two-stave tabletop. Each piece is hand-finished with purified raw linseed oil grown in California, resulting in a natural, zero-VOC finish.
Compact in scale, it can serve as a candle stand, side table, or nightstand. In our view, its distinctive form brings a quiet sense of good humor to whatever space it inhabits. The table ships partially assembled; assembly requires only a rubber mallet and should take less than five minutes.

Made by CraftedTimber in Ellisville, Missouri
CraftedTimber, founded by Jeff Puls, blends traditional joinery with modern tools to make solid-wood furniture built for long use. Each piece reflects respect for the past and care for what comes next. Jeff donates a portion of his proceeds to support The Children’s Heart Foundation.
utility with character
-
Traditional joinery
The table uses a wedged-tenon for the stem and traditional rabbeted drawer frame and rotating drawer stop. All of the table's structural parts are made with single staves of cherry from Pennsylvania.
-
Hand-Rubbed Finish
The table is finished in slow-drying, 100% purified raw linseed oil sourced from Californian flax. This gives an enduring, zero VOC finish that is also serviceable for life.

How Cherry Changes over Time
-
FRESH CHERRY
Cherry begins pale and golden, with a clean, quiet grain. In the first months of use, light and air bring out its natural warmth and depth.
-
MATURE CHERRY
With time, cherry settles into a deeper red-brown tone. The grain becomes warmer and richer, giving the wood a more settled, lived-in character.
Things to Know
The candle stand is made with solid America cherry without lacquers, stains or fillers. Here are some things to know:
Cherry Darkens Over Time
Over time, the tannins inside Cherry oxidize and create the beautiful deep red tones that many are familiar with. The effect is noticeable inside the first two months of ownership but will continue over the years.
Minimal but Repairable Finish
Roseland chooses to finish wood the old fashioned way with penetrating oils - this is inherently less hardy than a spray-on lacquer or a polyurethane based finish. The upshot of this approach is inherent repairability - you can always sand-down damage and re-oil the table. After a brief period of oxidization, the tones will even out.
3% of Profits to Bring back the American Chestnut
At Roseland, we're passionate tree buffs and are committed to helping bring back the iconic American chestnut to its native range. We will donate 3% of all unit-level profits at the end of 2026 to the American Chestnut Foundation and other similar efforts.
