Wood
Roseland started with a simple insight: it's possible to make quality American furniture more affordable when you focus on a few designs and put them into continuous production. Each piece is built across America by family-owned businesses using solid American Cherry, Black Walnut, Reclaimed Chestnut, or White Oak, with no stains or lacquers. The result is furniture that shows the natural grain and character of iconic native trees — and can be maintained, renewed, and kept in use over time.
We design our furniture to be repairable by you or by us. If you ever need help — from accident, wear, or age — we will do our best to repair it at direct cost. We do not profit from parts or repair work. As long as we are in business, we will do our best to keep your Roseland in use.
Nothing Added. Nothing Hidden.
Our materials speak for themselves. Each board is hand-selected for strength and color, finished with care and left unaltered. No stains, no shortcuts—just the beauty that was already there.
BOARD SELECTION
Every board is chosen by hand; looking for consistency in tone, tight growth rings, and a clean grain pattern. Sapwood and softer grain are avoided to ensure strength and lasting stability. The result is durable, heirloom-grade lumber that will last for generations.
FINISHING, NATURALLY
Surfaces are finished by hand using natural linseed oil — never polyurethane or plastic coatings. The finish protects the wood while allowing it to breathe, developing a soft sheen that grows richer with age. You can feel the difference: a warmth and texture only possible from a natural finish.
How Wood Changes with Time
Because we finish with pure raw linseed oil, the wood remains open to light, air, and use. Cherry naturally deepens from a pale golden tone to a warm red-brown, while walnut gradually lightens and softens into a warmer medium brown. The change is part of the material, and part of what makes each piece feel more settled over time.
FRESH CHERRY
Cherry begins pale and golden, with a clean, quiet grain. In the first months of use, light and air bring out its natural warmth.
MATURE CHERRY
With time, cherry settles into a deeper red-brown tone. The change is one of the reasons cherry has long been valued in furniture: it grows richer as it lives in a room.
FRESH WALNUT
Fresh walnut is dark, dense, and expressive, often with cool brown tones and visible movement in the grain. Its color can feel more dramatic at first.
MATURE WALNUT
Walnut gradually lightens with age, warming toward a medium brown with amber undertones. The contrast softens, and the surface takes on a quieter, lived-in depth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your wood sourced?
Our manufacturing partners source their wood from local lumber mills. As a design specification, we require that the wood is grown in the USA.
Why no stain options?
As a company, we believe in wood's natural grain and ever-changing tonality. While stains can deliver a more consistent tonality, they often come with synthetic additives, VOCs, and chemicals we prefer not to use. Secondly, stains inhibit the natural ease of repairing dings and dents, because they are hard to replicate or match decades from their application.
Is there a difference between "Walnut" and "Black Walnut"?
The short answer is often no. Black Walnut is America's walnut tree - if your furniture is made in the USA from "Walnut" then it is likely American Black Walnut. American Black Walnut has a richer, slightly darker tone than European walnut and was a prized export for furniture makers in Europe.
How do you ship your products?
For most products, we've included free UPS ground shipping to the lower 48. However certain products, due to size, ship with our white glove contractor: Pilot Logistics.
How does repair actually work?
We maintain a parts library for all of our products. If we run out of a part, we retain the file CAD and are able to recreate it.
